We are pleased to announce our next auction, featuring approximately 200 individual lots drawn from a diverse and compelling range of 19th- and early 20th-century photography. This sale focuses on vernacular images, photographs created not as formal studio portraits or elite commissions, but as direct, unscripted records of lived experience. These are objects made by and for everyday people, preserving moments of intimacy, labor, travel, performance, identity, and loss.

A hand-tinted stereo daguerreotype of a young woman posed in a suggestive yet refined reclining posture, her expression pensive as she rests her head on one hand while holding a partially opened book in the other. The figure wears a richly colored red and lavender dress with a white collar, drawn above the knees to reveal white stockings and black footwear. Her direct gaze and relaxed attitude offer a compelling contrast to the elegance of the patterned drapery and fine textiles surrounding her.

The image, presented in oval format with rounded corners and housed in a black paper-covered mount, is part of the distinguished Sammlung Uwe Scheid collection and bears his label numbered “1.041” on verso. The stereo effect is subtle but enhances the three-dimensional depth and intimacy of the composition. A rare and aesthetically striking example of early erotic portraiture rendered with artistic restraint and technical finesse.
