An elderly ethnic man anchors this sixth plate daguerreotype, seated in a three-quarter pose with a direct, unflinching gaze toward the lens. The portrait was produced at the Williams Premium Gallery in York, Pennsylvania, active from approximately 1853 through 1859, and the studio imprint pressed into the velvet pad of the leather case confirms the attribution. The daguerreotype is housed in a leather case with an embossed rose and foliate pattern on both exterior panels, a gilt brass mat with floral corner ornaments, and a gold-fabric inner surround framing the oval image window.

The subject wears a light checked sack coat over a dark brocade or patterned waistcoat, with a white turndown collar and a loosely knotted cravat at the throat. His hair is white and close-cropped at the sides, his complexion deeply lined, and his expression composed but intense. One hand rests partially visible at his lower left, fingers slightly curled.

John T. Williams was first recorded as a daguerreian in Baltimore in 1850, where census records note two male employees and an annual output of approximately 3,000 images. By 1853 he appears in York, Pennsylvania, and by 1858 to 1859 operated the Williams Skylight Photographic, Stereoscopic and Daguerreian Gallery in Centre Square, York, with Sieling and Evans listed as proprietors at that time.

The embossed velvet pad reads "Williams Premium Gallery, [York] Pa." No additional inscriptions are visible on the plate or case exterior.
