We are pleased to announce our next auction, featuring approximately 200 individual lots drawn from a diverse and compelling range of 19th- and early 20th-century photography. This sale focuses on vernacular images, photographs created not as formal studio portraits or elite commissions, but as direct, unscripted records of lived experience. These are objects made by and for everyday people, preserving moments of intimacy, labor, travel, performance, identity, and loss.

Elegant sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a composed young gentleman, captured in three-quarter view and dressed in a dark coat, wide cravat, and high white collar. His neatly parted hair and direct, slightly smiling expression convey both refinement and quiet confidence. The clarity of the image and the sitter's poised demeanor reflect the technical skill and sensitivity characteristic of the best early portraitists.

Stamped “MARKS” on the brass mat, this work is attributed to one of the many itinerant or studio daguerreotypists active during the 1840s and 1850s. The image is housed in a full leather case with red satin pad, complementing the warm coppery tones of the plate and the subtle detailing of the composition. Signed daguerreotypes remain uncommon and are especially valued by collectors for their attribution and insight into regional practices of the daguerreian era.
