A single unidentified man appears five times in the same composition in this real photo postcard multigraph by The Violet Studio, Fifth and Jefferson Streets, Louisville, Kentucky, the reverse dated October with a divided back postcard format consistent with the 1900s to 1910s. The subject is photographed in a mirrored studio setting to create the seamless illusion of five separate men engaged in a card game around a dark table. The black background was essential to the technique, preventing light contamination between successive exposures.

Multigraph portraits were a popular studio novelty of the early twentieth century, produced by masking successive portions of the negative and repositioning the subject between each exposure without moving the camera. The Violet Studio's execution here is particularly accomplished, with no visible seams or ghosting between figures and a convincing sense of spatial depth across the composition. The reverse bears a penciled notation "W.C" at upper left and a catalog notation "LACBZ 89" at lower right.
