Carte de visite albumen portrait of Rembrandt Peale published by E. Anthony, New York, from a photographic negative issued for Brady’s National Portrait Gallery. The image shows Peale standing in formal dress with cloak and spectacles against a plain studio background.

Rembrandt Peale (1778–1860) was a prominent American portrait painter and member of the celebrated Peale artistic family, known especially for his portraits of George Washington and other early American figures. Photographs of Peale are scarce, making portraits issued through Brady’s National Portrait Gallery historically significant.

Mount printed on the reverse: “Published by E. Anthony, 501 Broadway, New York, From Photographic Negative, From Brady’s National Portrait Gallery.”
