Extremely rare and visually striking quarter plate stereoscopic daguerreotype featuring a young nude woman seated against a patterned backdrop, with one arm posed behind her head and the other resting on a striped draped cloth. Faint hand tinting is visible on the subject’s cheeks, and the clarity of detail, particularly in the textiles and skin tones, reflects high-quality exposure and polishing of the silvered plate.

Erotic daguerreotypes were produced discreetly during the 1840s and 1850s, often commissioned privately and exchanged quietly among collectors. Stereoscopic examples are exceedingly scarce, as few photographers possessed the technical skill or equipment to produce paired exposures in such formats. The stereo effect enhances the dimensionality and intimacy of the subject, while the pose and confident expression suggest a degree of agency unusual for nude portraiture of the period.

Surviving daguerreotypes of nude women are highly sought after due to their rarity and historical significance as some of the earliest examples of erotic photography. This example, with its stereo composition and excellent preservation, stands as a testament to both the aesthetic ambitions and cultural taboos of the daguerreian era. An exceptional piece for collectors of early photography and 19th-century visual culture.
