Two unidentified young men occupy the center of this quarter plate daguerreotype, seated side by side before a draped studio table and presented within a leather case with an embossed scrollwork and interlace design on the exterior. The image retains applied gold tinting on the subjects' cravat pins and ring details, consistent with mid-nineteenth century American studio practice. No photographer's imprint is visible, and the composition and styling place the image in the 1850s.

Both men wear dark frock coats over satin waistcoats with wide silk cravats loosely knotted at the collar, and each displays a small gold pin at the chest. The man at left rests his right hand on what appears to be a pair of spectacles in his lap, while the man at right leans his left arm across the other's shoulder in a relaxed posture. On the draped table between them sits a small cased image standing upright, with additional flat cases or small books visible beside it.

The prop of a cased photograph placed prominently on the studio table is an uncommon compositional choice and suggests the subjects may have intended to reference the medium itself, or to display a likeness of someone significant to them. The leather case housing the daguerreotype features a deeply embossed decorative panel centered on an interlaced foliate medallion with scrollwork corner ornaments and gilt metal edge trim.
