Two unidentified gentlemen share the frame of this quarter plate daguerreotype, almost certainly produced under the imprint of Lucian Vannerson during his tenure with the Whitehurst gallery operation in the early 1850s. Both subjects are seated at a low table and face the camera directly, conveying a composed, unhurried formality characteristic of the period. The embossed gilt lettering "VANNERSON" stamped into the case's mat border attributes the image to that studio.

Both men wear dark frock coats, white dress shirts, and black bow ties, with buttoned waistcoats visible on each. The older figure at left has a full side-parted beard and rests one hand on the table edge, while the younger man at right is clean-shaven with dark curling hair and a watch fob visible at his lapel. Their shoulders nearly touch, suggesting a familial or close professional relationship.

Lucian Vannerson (1828–1903) was one of three daguerreotypist brothers, alongside Adrian and Julian. He worked in Richmond with J. H. Whitehurst's gallery by 1850 and was documented at Whitehurst's Tarboro, North Carolina operation in 1851, the period most consistent with this image's studio attribution. The leather case features deeply embossed gilt floral and arabesque decoration on the exterior and a crimson embossed velvet pad on the interior lid.

The name VANNERSON appears stamped in gilt lettering on the interior mat border of the leather case.
