Raw, rare, and unforgettable—this is 19th- and early 20th-century photography at its best. Vernacular portraits, Native American warriors, African American resilience, Mormon pioneers, Western frontier families, and stark post-mortem scenes. Daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, CDVs, and cabinet cards that capture real life without filters. Every image tells a story of survival, pride, and change. A museum-worthy collection for those who know real American history when they see it.

Poignant and beautifully rendered sixth plate post mortem daguerreotype of a deceased child lying in a spindle crib, with delicately applied pink tinting to the garment and naturalistic rouge on the cheeks and lips. The child rests peacefully on a pillow, hands folded across the abdomen, surrounded by well-padded bedding. The crib's turned spindles and cushion detail are rendered with fine clarity, enhancing the solemn, intimate atmosphere of the scene.

The plate is housed in its original pressed leather case with floral motif and intact clasp. Focus is excellent, and the image retains a striking presence despite light tarnish at the mat edge.

Post mortem daguerreotypes of this composition—especially with original tinting, intact crib context, and strong visual impact—are highly sought after. An evocative and emotionally resonant image that reflects 19th-century mourning culture and photographic practices surrounding childhood death.
