Photographer's advertising cartes-de-visite for Chamberlin's studio which operated at 603 Broadway near Houston in New York City ca 1870. IN addition to advertising text, it includes a portrait of a young girl wearing a light dress and styled ringlet curls seated on a photographer's posing chair beside a small decorative birdcage. The photograph is printed in a vignette format with the subject fading softly into the background.

The mount bears the imprint Chamberlin, 603 Broadway, Near Houston Street, New York. The front border advertises the studio’s services including “Oil Paintings, Photographs, Frames, etc.” and “Porcelain Portraits and Miniatures a Specialty.” The reverse contains printed studio information and instructions relating to portrait sittings and the purchase of negatives.

This cabinet card represents a typical late nineteenth century New York studio child portrait combining decorative studio props with a softly vignetted photographic style. The printed advertising on both sides of the mount reflects the marketing practices of large urban photographic studios during the period.
