Group of stereoview photographs depicting various aspects of coal extraction and processing in the Pennsylvania anthracite region. The images include interior mine scenes showing workers drilling and breaking coal underground as well as views of coal being loaded into carts and transported along tracks within the mines.
Other stereographs show large coal breakers and industrial structures near Scranton, where coal was crushed, sorted, and prepared for shipment. Several images document the heavy machinery and conveyor systems used to move coal through processing plants and loading facilities.
These stereographs were produced by the Keystone View Company and other publishers known for educational stereographic series illustrating industry and labor. The photographs capture both the scale of the industrial infrastructure and the physically demanding labor performed by miners working in confined underground conditions.
