Late nineteenth-century memorial mourning card printed in black with gold decorative illustration and lettering. The card reads “In Loving Remembrance of Mrs. Patrick Burke, Died July 29, 1899, Age 38 yrs. 4 mos. 4 days.” The design features a mourning figure seated beside a stone cross beneath rays of light breaking through clouds, with the figure holding an open book inscribed “Holy.”
The lower portion contains a printed mourning verse beginning “’Tis hard to break the tender cord when love has bound the heart…” framed within decorative borders and scrollwork typical of late Victorian memorial ephemera.
The bottom margin bears the imprint “Copyright, 1899, by H. F. Wendell, Leipsic, O.” A finely printed example of a turn-of-the-century memorial remembrance card produced for funerary or commemorative distribution.
