A circular daguerreotype portrait of an unidentified young woman is housed within a gold-tone pocket watch style locket, consistent with daguerreian-era keepsake cases produced in the mid-nineteenth century. The photograph sits beneath a convex glass cover secured within an engraved bezel, and the locket opens on a hinged hinge with a ball-tipped crown loop for suspension on a chain. No photographer's imprint is visible on the case or image.

The subject faces slightly left with a composed, direct expression and dark hair parted at the center and drawn back from her face. She wears a light-colored dress with a wide white collar and what appears to be a brooch or cravat pin at the throat. The image shows warm tonal qualities consistent with hand-applied color applied to the face and collar area.

The exterior of the locket features engine-turned sunburst engraving on both the front and back covers, surrounded by flowing foliate and scroll motifs. The inner lid is plain and polished. A large suspension ring with a ball post is fitted to the crown, indicating the case was designed for wear as a pendant.
