Large photographic portrait printed as a toned cyanotype on fabric, measuring approximately 20 x 20 inches. The image depicts a seated man wearing a suit, vest, and wide-brimmed hat, posed before a painted studio backdrop showing a landscape scene. The portrait has the characteristic soft tonal range associated with cyanotype printing, here appearing in a warm toned variation rather than the more typical blue.

The sitter is shown seated in a studio chair with one hand resting on his knee and the other at his side. Details such as a chain across the vest, mustache, and period clothing help place the photograph in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Cyanotypes printed on cloth were sometimes produced as novelty photographic portraits or commemorative textile prints.

The image is printed directly onto a square piece of fabric rather than paper and retains visible creasing from folding. This unusual photographic format reflects one of the many experimental or novelty uses of the cyanotype process during the early years of amateur and commercial photography.
