A delightful group of four original 19th-century tintypes capturing people posed with their beloved dogs, showcasing both the stylistic variety and vernacular creativity of the era. These images reflect an affection for pets that feels strikingly contemporary, offering a rare, candid glimpse into the human-animal bond during the tintype era.

One image features a seated woman with three children, their small white dog proudly posed in the foreground, alert and centered like a member of the family. Another tintype shows three women and a child gathered in a studio, a striped dog curled at the feet of one woman while another holds a small dog in her lap. The third image depicts a remarkable tableau of eight women in a parlor setting, some holding books, while a spaniel lies at their feet beside a toy or stuffed dog placed for whimsical effect. The fourth tintype is a particularly sharp, hand-colored image of two women posed with a long-haired lapdog, dramatically arranged against a sweeping backdrop curtain, the animal comfortably resting on one woman’s lap.

Each plate measures standard CDV size, approximately 2.5 x 4 inches. Together, they provide a wonderful cross-section of late 19th-century studio portraiture and everyday affection expressed through photography. Ideal for collectors of vernacular imagery, canine subjects, or period domestic life.
