Exceptional half plate daguerreotype in its original seals of a seated Quaker family, taken by the celebrated Philadelphia partnership of McClees & Germon. Known for their technical mastery and elite clientele, McClees & Germon were among the most prominent daguerreotypists of the 1850s, and this image exemplifies their hallmark clarity and dignified composition.

Four family members are arranged with remarkable presence and poise. The father and son wear simple yet refined coats with high white collars, while the women are dressed in modest Quaker attire, including a white cap and shawl on the matriarch. The standing daughter rests her hand on her mother's shoulder, holding a small closed fan—perhaps a subtle nod to Quaker restraint and refinement. The figures are rendered with vivid detail and subtle hand tinting, and their expressions carry a sense of quiet strength and familial pride.

The plate is housed in a full leather case with a finely tooled floral design. Mat and preserver are original, and the velvet pad is a deep maroon. "McClees & Germon" is clearly stamped on the bottom edge of the mat, confirming the attribution. Images of Quaker families are notably scarce, and even rarer when paired with a photographer of this caliber. A powerful and historically significant portrait from one of America's finest early studios.
