Four carte-de-visite photographs, each documenting a distinct subject and European photographic tradition, form a cohesive occupational and ethnographic grouping. The robed North African man at upper left was produced by Alary and Geiser of Algiers and Bône, a prominent Algerian studio known for commercial ethnographic imagery distributed widely across Europe in the 1860s and 1870s. The fishwives group at upper right carries the imprint of A. Patte Fils, Photographe, Rue de l'Écu 19, Boulogne-sur-Mer, and the seated seafarer at lower right is attributed to H. King, 19 New England Street, Brighton.

The Alary and Geiser subject stands full-length in a white burnous and wrapped turban, wearing beaded jewelry, posed against a plain studio floor. The Patte Fils card shows four figures in working dress surrounding a fishing net, with buckets, baskets, and a wooden post visible in a staged interior. The lower-left card, bearing a G. Allen & Sons stamp, depicts two men seated at the entrance to a pair of barrel-vaulted arches with a lace-covered table between them. The Brighton seafarer is shown three-quarter length in a dark jacket and peaked cap, seated with one hand resting forward.

The reverse of the upper-right card bears a handwritten notation reading "6/19/10, C.083N1, octo," and the lower-right reverse is inscribed "Sea Captain or Clorate?" The lower-left reverse is numbered and dated in the G. Allen & Sons printed format. Alary and Geiser's imprint lists studios at No. 1 Rue Neuve Milion and 12 Rue Napoléon, Algiers.
