A young African American woman is portrayed in this albumen carte-de-visite produced by Wm. M. Ginter of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, most likely dating to the 1870s based on the elaborately ruffled bodice and overall dress style consistent with that decade. She faces the camera directly with a composed, steady expression, her short natural hair pinned back at the sides. The portrait is a three-quarter-length seated composition with the subject's arms resting forward on a draped studio prop.

Her dress features a heavily ruffled and pleated dark bodice over a light-colored blouse with full sleeves, a plaid or checked cravat at the neck secured by a floral brooch, and a second decorative pin below it. A white ruffled collar frames the neckline, and her wrists carry additional ruched fabric trim, reflecting careful attention to fashionable dress.

Wm. M. Ginter operated a photography studio in Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania, during the latter half of the nineteenth century, producing work consistent in style and mount format with regional photographers of that era.

The reverse of the mount is blank with no inscription or notation.
