Two unidentified basket weavers are photographed at work in their shop in this albumen carte de visite by F.S. Mann, Photographic Artist, 13 Wellington Place, Hastings, England. The deliberate arrangement of finished stock covering every surface behind and above the subjects, combined with the active working poses, indicates this was made as a trade or occupational record intended for commercial distribution. The format, mount style, and imprint design are consistent with the 1870s to early 1880s.

The older man at left, dressed in a white work coat and bow tie, sits weaving a small basket in his lap with his eyes cast downward toward his work. The younger man at right, in a dark jacket, works the ribs of a large partially constructed wicker armchair or settee that dominates the center of the composition. Bundles of unworked willow or rattan cane fill the foreground floor. Dozens of finished baskets of varying sizes, shapes, and weave patterns hang from the walls and ceiling behind them, including market baskets, picnic hampers, covered boxes, flat trays, and what appears to be a birdcage at lower left.

The reverse bears an ornate circular imprint incorporating the Prince of Wales feathers and the motto "Ich Dien," identifying F.S. Mann as Photographic Artist at 13 Wellington Place, Hastings, with the notation "Copies can be had" printed below.
