Carte de visite photograph depicting the final resting place of English Romantic poet William Wordsworth, taken in the churchyard of St. Oswald’s Church in Grasmere, Cumbria. The carefully composed image captures a row of upright gravestones in a peaceful wooded setting beside the church. At center is the tombstone of Wordsworth, flanked by the graves of family members, including his wife Mary and daughter Dora. The monument is one of the most visited literary pilgrimage sites in Britain.

Period manuscript title on verso reads “Wordsworth’s Grave.” Below in a later hand is a provenance note identifying the CDV as a gift from Miss Clara Winthrop, dated 17 September 1930. A poignant photographic document linking the material culture of Victorian photography with the enduring legacy of one of England’s most influential poets.
