Carte de visite portrait identified on the mount as “Major Atom.” The young little-person performer stands on a small table beside a seated woman in a studio interior with architectural set pieces and staircase backdrop.
The photograph was taken by well-known New York theatrical photographer Charles Eisenmann, whose Bowery studio produced many portraits of sideshow and exhibition performers during the late nineteenth century.
Mount printed “Major Atom — Eisenmann, Photo, 229 Bowery, N.Y.” Reverse bears the full Chas. Eisenmann, Photographer, 229 Bowery, New York imprint. CDV format.
