Rare and historically charged Civil War-era CDV lampooning Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The cartoon caricature mocks Davis’s 1865 capture by Union troops while allegedly disguised in women's clothing, a moment widely ridiculed in Northern satire. The figure is shown fleeing in a hoop skirt and bonnet, with a grim expression and drawn sword, captioned below: "The Clothes of the Confederacy."

This infamous event became fodder for numerous political cartoons and photographic prints in the North, making this a striking example of wartime propaganda and period dark humor.

Photographed and published by Edward Fleischer, Canton, Ohio, whose imprint appears prominently along the bottom margin.
