Albumen carte de visite depicting the P. T. Barnum performers Chinese giant Chang Woo Gow with the dwarf Che Mah, issued by the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, 110 Regent Street and 54 Cheapside. The pairing corresponds to identified exhibition portraits of the two performers, produced for commercial distribution during the later 19th century when such figures were widely photographed for Western audiences. Both are associated with appearances in Barnum’s “Greatest Show on Earth,” placing the image within the broader context of touring sideshow entertainment.

The taller figure stands at left in a long patterned robe with wide sleeves, wearing a round cap and holding an open folding fan at chest level. A long braided queue falls forward over the shoulder, and the garment is decorated with repeating motifs including fan forms. At right, Che Mah stands in shorter robes and cap, also holding a fan, with the giant’s hand resting on the top of his hat to emphasize the height contrast.

The reverse bears the printed crest reading “The London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, 110 Regent St.” with “and at 54 Cheapside” below and “Photographers to the Royal Family” above. A red Chinese seal stamp appears at left, consistent with a traditional chop mark, likely applied as a studio or later ownership stamp. Pencil notations include “LAFCEZ” and a dated inscription “11/10/02 HR,” indicating subsequent handling after initial production.
