A young girl holds a full-size violin and bow in a three-quarter length studio portrait made by Brady of Orange, New Jersey, with the studio imprint printed in rust-red script along the lower mount border accompanied by an ornate interlocked monogram. The cream mount with red ruled borders and scalloped reverse edges is consistent with cabinet card production of the mid-to-late 1880s. No subject identification appears on the mount or reverse.

The girl wears a white dress with puffed short sleeves, a ruffled bib front, and a full skirt, with a delicate chain necklace and a white ribbon bow at the crown of her long, loose blonde hair. She holds the violin upright with the scroll raised in her left hand and cradles the body against her right hip, the bow hanging loosely downward. Her gaze is directed down toward the instrument with a composed, attentive expression, and her profile is turned three-quarters to the right.

The reverse is blank except for a partially legible embossed studio stamp at the lower right corner, consistent with the Brady, Orange, New Jersey imprint on the front mount.
