An albumen silver print cabinet card with no photographer's imprint on the front or reverse, mounted with a red ruled border line on a cream stock. The image is an outdoor photograph taken outdoors, suggesting a construction or utility installation site. The format and dress of the subjects place this image in the 1890s to early 1900s, consistent with the period of early telephone infrastructure deployment.

The seated man in the foreground wears a dark three-piece suit with a necktie and mustache, his right hand resting on a wooden-cased wall telephone beside his chair. The telephone has two bell at the top, hand held receiver and a central transmitter, consistent with early commercial telephone equipment. The man standing behind him is younger, dressed in a dark jacket and trousers with what appears to be a leather tool belt or harness typical of a telephone installer at his waist, a strap crossing his chest, and additional equipment at his side consistent with a lineman or installer's kit.

The outdoor setting, portable telephone equipment, and the standing figure's working gear together suggest this image documents telephone installation or field testing. The reverse is plain with no printed design, inscription, or identification of any kind present.
