Talbot Bros. Picture Frame Manufacturer at 89 Broadway, Albany, New York occupies the full facade of this albumen photograph mounted on a large card stock board, attributed to E. W. Cock of 994 Broadway, Albany. The storefront signage identifies the business as both a picture frame manufacturer and operator of a news room and circulating library, a notably dual commercial identity. Three men pose at street level: one seated casually on what appears to be a post or box at left, two others standing in the recessed doorway dressed in dark coats and waistcoats.

The shop front displays a bold upper banner reading "TALBOT BRO'S. PICTURE FRAME MANUFACTURER" and a secondary awning sign reading "TALBOT'S 89 89," with a striped canvas awning fringed at the edges draped across the entrance. Display windows flank the central arched doorway, filled with framed goods and printed matter, and a cast iron fire hydrant stands on the sidewalk at lower right.

Talbot Bros. operated at 89 Broadway in Albany and combined picture framing with a circulating library and news room, a common commercial pairing in mid-to-late nineteenth century American towns that served both retail and community reading needs. The photographer, E. W. Cock, operated from 994 Broadway, Albany, and the embossed script address is legible along the lower mount face.

Reverse bears the printed imprint: "E. W. COCK, 994 BROADWAY, ALBANY, N.Y." with a reorder notice; a blue paper lot tag marked "205" is affixed to the reverse.
