Two Sherwin-Williams painters posed mid-conversation anchor this exceptional occupational cabinet card, made by Lewis of Eureka, Kansas, almost certainly in the 1890s. The elaborate studio backdrop replicates an interior painting scene with extraordinary specificity, placing the men within a setting of louvered shutters, decorative painted friezes, and ornamental wall panels that advertise their trade's capabilities with clear promotional intent.

Both men wear paint-spattered work aprons and folded paper caps. The man at left leans against a wooden ladder with a pipe in his mouth and grips a labeled paint pail, while his companion, seated on a wooden box to the right, holds a brush and a small card or note as if reading a work order. Several Sherwin-Williams paint cans numbered 357 and 153 are arranged on the floor and the box beside them, their printed labels clearly legible.

Sherwin-Williams was established in Cleveland in 1866 and by the 1890s was aggressively expanding its dealer and contractor network across the Midwest, making this image a rare piece of branded trade documentation from that period. The paper cap worn by the man at right bears lettering consistent with "Sherwin-Williams," reinforcing the commercial identity of the portrait.

The reverse bears a pencil inscription reading "Sherwin Williams Painters, Eureka, Kansas," along with the notation "7/28/06 ODBADA" and the initials "Eb."
