Our September 2026 auction is anchored by two remarkable private collections, together making up about half the sale, alongside a broader selection of consignments spanning early photography, Civil War material, and vernacular imagery. The Soffer Collection, built with an eye for rarity and historical significance, is particularly strong in vernacular portraiture, Native American photographs, and Iowa Civil War imagery. The Palmer, Massachusetts collection, much of it found at Brimfield, centers on maker-marked daguerreotypes from the golden age of the American daguerreian studio.

An unidentified infant sits centered on an ornate upholstered settee in this cabinet card produced by Fly's Photographic Gallery at 312 Fremont Street, Tombstone, Arizona Territory. C.S. Fly operated his gallery on Fremont Street during the early 1880s, making him one of the most historically significant frontier photographers in the American West, best known for his documentation of Tombstone during the period surrounding the gunfight at the O.K. Corral and his later coverage of the Geronimo campaign.

The child wears a full-length lace christening or dress gown with long sleeves, striped ribbed stockings, and small dark leather shoes. The settee features tufted upholstery with oval button medallions on each arm, a heavily patterned damask fabric, and a wide flat seat that fills the lower half of the frame.

The studio imprint on the front reads "Fly's Gallery, Tombstone A.T." and the reverse carries the full imprint "Fly's Photographic Gallery, 312 Fremont Street, Tombstone, A.T." along with the printed phrase "Copies may be had at any time." A handwritten notation reading "1MCPW21" appears in pencil at the top of the reverse.
