This cabinet card photograph shows two figures posed cross dressing in an Asian theatrical studio scene, with the photographer’s imprint of A. M. Anderson, Haverhill, Mass. printed on the mount. The image appears to be a staged portrait from the late 19th or early 20th century, and the reverse shown is a decorated red mount back rather than a plain blank back. The scene is presented as a formal studio composition with theatrical costume and painted interior setting.

The asian motif may indicate a scene from the Mikado. One figure stands with a large fan and layered robe, while the other bends forward in a floral patterned kimono-like garment. A patterned floor, painted architectural elements, and a decorative backdrop frame the subjects. The composition includes a second fan, sandal footwear, and a curtain-like prop at left, adding to the staged theatrical effect.

The mount back is richly printed in red and gold with ornamental borders, a fan motif, and the text “Crayon and Pastel Portraits a Specialty” and “These mounts are imported for our trade.” Handwritten pencil notations run along the right edge and top margin. The card shows light edge wear and handling, with minor surface marks consistent with age.
