The adobe ranch house at Camulos Ranch, Ventura County, California — widely known as "Ramona's Home" following the success of Helen Hunt Jackson's 1884 novel — is documented in this albumen print boudoir card published by Pierce & McConnell at 515 North Main Street, Los Angeles, circa 1887 to 1895. The image is number 41 in the firm's "Views of Los Angeles and Vicinity" series, with the title and series imprint printed in the negative along the lower edge. The reverse carries a full descriptive text under the heading "Ramona's Home" and identifies Pierce & McConnell as successors to J.B. Blanchard & Co.

The long, low adobe structure is shown in a three-quarter view with a covered front veranda supported by slender wooden posts running the full length of the facade; climbing vines and ornamental plantings frame the entrance steps and a window at right. The building's plastered white walls, low-pitched tile-capped roof, and deeply shaded portal are characteristic of the California rancho style of the mid-nineteenth century.

Rancho Camulos was widely believed to have been the setting of Helen Hunt Jackson's popular 1884 novel Ramona, which romanticized the California rancho era and generated enormous tourist interest in Southern California. The reverse text quotes Jackson's own description of the Senora Moreno's house and notes that the ranch then comprised fourteen hundred acres in the Santa Clara Valley, forty-eight miles from Los Angeles.
