We are pleased to present our Winter Photography Auction, opening January 31 at 1:00 PM Eastern, featuring approximately 270 individual lots spanning the full breadth of 19th- and early 20th-century photography. The sale brings together landmark historical images, rare early photographic processes, and a deep selection of vernacular material created outside the conventions of formal studio portraiture. Collectively, these works offer a direct, unfiltered record of American life, identity, conflict, labor, and memory during photography’s formative century.

Album page bearing multiple gelatin silver photographic strips and small prints, mounted recto and verso. The recto features four horizontal multi-exposure portrait strips showing young men in formal attire, posed in varied expressions and profile views. Several strips are annotated in period ink with names and dates, including “Harry Russell,” “Henry Lower,” “Edward Stokes,” and dates in 1912. The format and repetition indicate early automated or studio strip portrait production rather than conventional cabinet or CDV formats.

The verso contains five individually mounted gelatin silver photographs depicting a woman and a man outdoors in an urban setting, including park scenes and architectural backdrops. Period ink inscriptions identify sitters and dates, including “Feb. 1913,” with names such as “Maxine Elliott,” “Mrs. Lower,” and “Mr. Elliott,” suggesting the page documents a small social circle over a short span of time. The imagery reflects informal personal photography of the early 1910s, combining studio strip portraits with casual outdoor views.

Brown paper album page measuring approximately 10 x 7 inches, with photographs affixed on both sides. All captions and names are handwritten directly on the album page; no photographer’s imprints or studio marks are visible on the photographs themselves.
