Cabinet card photograph dated 1895 showing a young man seated behind a table covered with a textured cloth and lined with numerous glass bottles arranged in a row. Additional bottle-opening tools rest on the table in front of him. The young man faces the camera directly in a formal pose wearing a dark jacket and tie.
The mount bears the imprint “Pierson Photo., Warren G. Haze,” with the date 1895 written along the lower edge. The reverse carries a later handwritten note reading “Warren Haze, picture taken 72 yrs ago, bottles made wonderful music – 1967.” The arrangement of bottles and the comment suggest the subject may have been demonstrating bottle music, a form of sound made by blowing across bottle tops tuned with varying liquid levels.
The cabinet card has scalloped mount edges and retains the handwritten note on the reverse referring to the subject and the musical use of the bottles. An unusual posed photograph documenting a bottle music demonstration or novelty performance from the late nineteenth century.
