A remarkable panoramic photograph taken circa 1862 by William Morris Smith, a notable collaborator of Alexander Gardner. This image captures the men and artillery of Independent Battery C, Pennsylvania Light Artillery, stationed at Camp Barry in Washington, D.C. The unit, under Captain James Thompson, was mustered in November 1861 for a three-year enlistment and participated in critical Civil War battles, including Cedar Mountain, Second Bull Run, Antietam, and Gettysburg. This photograph not only illustrates the unit's disciplined formation and impressive weaponry but also stands as a testament to their significant contributions to the Union's military efforts.
