A sixth plate daguerreotype featuring a man standing beside a white horse. The man is dressed in typical 19th-century attire, wearing a dark suit, bow tie, and a brimmed hat. He is holding the horse's reins with one hand, while the other hand holds what appears to be a riding crop or a rope, indicating a moment of pause possibly before or after a ride.
The horse is prominently positioned in the frame, with its head slightly lowered, standing calmly beside the man. The composition emphasizes the relationship between the man and his horse, a common theme in 19th-century photography where the ownership and care of animals were often depicted as symbols of status and companionship.
The daguerreotype is in fair condition, with a noticeable wipe mark along the horse's leg. This imperfection could be the result of a cleaning attempt or handling over time. The image is framed with an ornate gold-colored mat, which shows some signs of tarnishing, especially around the edges, typical of daguerreotypes from this period.
